Friends Meeting Minutes of December 18, 2007
The December 18, 2007, meeting of the Friends of the Plattsburgh Public Library was called to order by Pres. Hochreiter at 10 am.
Members present: Carol Hochreiter, Louise Tanner, Helen Ianelli, Charlie Bainbridge, Linda Parks, Kathy Herlihy, Eileen Perras, Bobbie Scales, Stan Ransom, and Kathy Murnane.
Secretary’s Report: Motion to accept the November 13, 2007, minutes made by Kathy H, seconded by Louise. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report:
Beginning balance: $ 8,714.65

- $1,000 donation received again from same person as last year.
- Celiac Assoc. donated 10 books and $256.88.
- 2007 budget appears to have been on target.
Motion to accept the report made by Eileen, seconded by Kathy M. Motion carried.
Director’s Report:
- Working on new budget (and old,) which includes children’s room shelving, Gates Foundation computer purchase, finishing up year end books, DVD’s, and other.
- Carol Baumeister is retiring. A new adult services librarian is needed.
- Waiting to hear on the Friend’s 5013c designation.
- Young Adult Room needs unpainted bookcase and upgrade the carpet. Roland Lockwook would paint free if paint provided
- Reorganize tech services (electrical)
- Bequest and donation forms for wills, etc. supplied to Friends. Memorial forms donations go to the Public Library for books.
- Goals for 2008: asbestos removal, renovate young adult room and local history room, plan to digitize the McClellan cemetery records.
- Unsold book from sale: Schroon Lake, Willsboro, and Upper Jay libraries will tke some boxes. Hospital took some. The Better Books program did not work out.
- Newsletter is planned for mid to end January.
- Power point projects and sound system for the auditorium – have more programs and encourage the city to use the library, teen programs, and enhance the library.
Library Board Liaison:
- Linda thanked the Friends for their support of the Library.
New Business:
- Kathy will send “Thank You” to Amy Guglielmo for book donation.
- Photo sold from art show brought a $350 donation. Suggestion to buy art work from the shows for the Children’s Room. Will discuss next month
- Tamio Gastio will hang show April 3- May 3. Pretty Pots is in mid-April.
- Carol suggested Art Walks in the city to showcase art in restaurants and include the Hale-Walter Gallery where refreshment could be served—possibly a Friday evening.
- Spring luncheon: Carl Heilman, renowned photographer, has agreed to speak on Thurs., June 26 at a fee of $500. He lives in Brandt Lake. Charlie will confirm the date and fee. The Burgundy Room has been reserved. Motion by Charlie to accept this arrangement, seconded by Helen. Motion carried.
- Monday, Jan. 7 at 9:30 am is set for taking down the Christmas decoration.
- January dues are now being collected. It is still a bargain at $5.00!
- A request was made for a logo shirt for the new director.
Old Business:
- Polar Express was a big success. Thanks to all who volunteered to work. 48 children and 52 adults attended. Kathy H suggested to serve cold drinks next year, cocoa was too hot for the little ones. All agreed. Suggested to do more for story hour with themes. Carol will talk with Karen.
- Christmas staff gifts were distributed today.
- Nominations: Kathy M. presented the slate of officers for election in January. Carol Hochreiter-Pres., Helen Ianelli-V.P., Louise Tanner-Treasurer, Pat Loughan-Secretary, Barb Riley-Corresponding Sec.
Meeting adjourned at 11 am.
